PCC Preschool Playground
Portland Community College Early Childhood Development Center Playground Renovation
Grasstains transformed the outdoor play space at the Portland Community College Early Childhood Development Center, creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. Tasked with renovating a failing playground, our team successfully delivered the project on time and under budget, working closely with project management and ownership to ensure a high-quality outcome.
The redesigned play area features dedicated spaces for infants (0-2 years) and young children (2-5 years), incorporating both traditional and nature-based elements to foster active play, creativity, and exploration.
Project Features:
Traditional Play Elements – A Kompan play structure and concrete trike track encourage movement and skill development.
Nature-Based Play – Sand play areas, shade trees, and a willow hut create a sensory-rich, imaginative play environment.
Safety & Infrastructure Enhancements – Removal of deteriorating concrete and log elements, reconfiguration of drainage and irrigation systems, and installation of Poured-in-Place (PIP) rubber surfacing to improve safety and meet fall height requirements.
Optimized Space & Accessibility – Reconfigured commercial cyclone fencing and added gates to improve circulation and allow flexible use for different age groups.
Through innovative, cost-effective solutions, Grasstains delivered a durable, engaging, and thoughtfully designed play environment that will serve children and educators for years to come.
