Irvington Modern Bungalow
Portland boasts a wide variety of residential architecture throughout its many distinctive neighborhoods, but one of the most common is the Bungalow, which became prevalent in the first half of the 20th century. Known for their sloping, low-pitched roof, asymmetrical frame, front porch, and square tapered columns, bungalow homes are easily identifiable throughout the city.
Despite these charmingly classic characteristics, a lot of homeowners are looking for ways to modernize their Portland bungalows using an all-new landscaping design. Such was the case in Northeast Portland’s Irvington neighborhood, where our team was tasked with putting a modern touch on the entire lot surrounding the traditional bungalow while keeping the landscaping true to the classic nature of the architecture of the home and the surrounding neighborhood.
The Grasstains team added modern style to the home by incorporating stone masonry and multiple hardscapes, designed to create depth and accentuate a landscape that was carefully chosen to add symmetry and frame the home’s traditional architecture. To complete the look, contemporary fencing was installed, shaping a new gathering space and making the home feel more private.
