Bridlemile Rain Garden

A rain garden is a shallow recession built into a home’s landscape to collect water runoff from roofs, sidewalks, driveways, or other hard surfaces. The area is filled with hardy plants that absorb chemicals and other pollutants the water collects as it drains from hard surfaces, so it can safely soak into the ground.

With Portland’s wet climate, rain gardens are becoming an increasingly popular landscaping option. For this project in the Southwest neighborhood of Bridlemile, the objective was to design several rain gardens to collect runoff from hard surfaces around the property while seamlessly integrating with the landscape’s natural aesthetic.

To achieve this, our team combined a carefully designed landscape planting layout, with steel edging and hardscapes made up of sleek and stylish concrete pavers. The result – is an attractive and purposeful landscape that protects our waterways, prevents flooding, and replenishes groundwater around the home.
