Boise Tree House
THE TREE HAUS IN PORTLAND’S BOISE NEIGHBORHOOD
Tall, mature Douglas fir trees are ubiquitous in the Pacific Northwest and are a fixture in the landscapes of many homes. Removal is difficult, expensive, and sometimes prohibited or undesirable. The Tree Haus is a unique and useful way to use the trees on your property to create a dreamy new space.
When creating the design for this unique space, there were many things to consider - the health of your trees and the space between them allowing them to fully mature, permitting needs, sustainable materials for the climate, and most importantly the intention for the space. For this tree house in Boise, the goal was to use the yard’s two, centuries-old trees as anchors for a large, covered structure that would blend beautifully with the surrounding natural elements. Designed to work with the Natural elements the Grasstain's Design team seamlessly worked with the site instead of looking to tame it.
Our outdoor living design team kicked off the project by conceptualizing the space and developing an implementation strategy for the garden carpentry team, who used premium materials to build a structure amongst the topiary. The teamwork goes hand and hand to develop the right scale with the client working through a cohesive back and forth to get it right. Next, our staff then established the layout and used hardscapes to make the area easily accessible, weaving curvilinear lines to harmonize and get the look just right bringing in the right softscapes with shade loving drought tolerant native landscaping and softscapes – resulting in a functional space with the perfect backyard habitat for a natural backdrop.
